Ductless mini-split systems for Tri-Cities homes

A mini-split heats and cools one room or several without a foot of ductwork. Apollo sizes, installs and services them from the shop on Columbia Drive in Kennewick.

Chapter 01

Rooms the ducts never reached

Every house has one: the addition that never got a vent, the garage turned into a workshop, the bonus room over the garage that is an oven in August and a freezer in January. Older homes often have no ducts at all. Running new ductwork through finished walls is the expensive way to fix that, and sometimes it is not possible.

A mini-split skips the ducts. An outdoor compressor and condenser sits on a pad or a bracket, and refrigerant lines carry the heat to one or more indoor air-handling units mounted in the rooms themselves. Because there is no bulky ductwork to build, the install leaves your walls and ceilings alone, and the indoor head is quieter and more discreet than a vent.

One system can cool the room in summer and heat it in winter, so the same equipment covers the whole year.

Single-zone, multi-zone and ducted mini-splits

A single-zone system pairs one outdoor unit with one indoor head and suits one problem room. A multi-zone system serves several rooms from one outdoor unit. Their own guidance is that one outdoor unit can generally feed up to four indoor units, but the real number depends on the size and capacity of the system, so the load for each room is worked out before anything is ordered.

The reason people choose a multi-zone layout is control. Inverter technology and zoning let each room hold its own temperature, so the bedroom can sit cool while the office stays warm and nobody fights over a single thermostat in the hall.

Apollo handles every step: sizing the system, mounting the indoor units, running and charging the refrigerant lines, and wiring the controls. Where a home does have a duct system that could be reused, a ducted mini-split is the third option, and the technician will say which of the three fits the house rather than which one is easiest to sell.

Chapter 03

Living with a mini-split

A mini-split asks for very little, and it asks regularly. The filters in the indoor head wash or swap out, the outdoor unit needs clear space around it, and the whole system should be serviced at least once a year. A service visit cleans the indoor and outdoor units, checks the refrigerant level and inspects the electrical connections.

In a Tri-Cities winter the same unit is heating your room, so ask about how your model behaves in a hard freeze and whether the room needs a second source of heat. That conversation happens before the install, not after the first cold snap.

Other ways Apollo keeps a Tri-Cities house comfortable

A ductless head is one answer to one room. The rest of the house still runs on a furnace, a heat pump or central air, and Apollo works on all of it from Kennewick to Pasco, Richland and West Richland. Call (509) 396-2653 any hour of the day: 24 Hour Service is how we run.

“For the first time, all the rooms in our house are the same temperature, which has made a huge difference in comfort.”
